Home is where the heart is, a concept easily understood yet elusive. When I resided in Miami (Florida), home was confined to my family’s house and yard. While we knew our neighbors, there was no palpable sense of community. After leaving my parents’ house (in Miami), I’ve lived in various accommodations, both shared and solitary. These included college dorms, apartments, home rentals, community-like houses, and even a bedroom in a multi-tenant house where we shared a common bathroom and kitchen. In most instances, I found comfort, but they weren’t quite home.
Today, my home is the house I share with my lovely wife. It’s the yard I relish, bordered by friendly neighbors. The tall trees provide shade and a respite from the scorching summer heat. The presence of birds and rabbits adds to the charm. And then there’s the floating deck with a clear bubble tent, where we can relish cold, dark rainy days or simply sit out at night, gazing at the stars. In retrospect, I was always on a quest to find my heart. ​
